ACCRA, GHANA – November 18, 2013.
From November 22-24 this year, entrepreneurs, designers, developers and startup enthusiasts will gather at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology for the third edition of the annual Startup Weekend Accra event. Within a duration of 54 hours, these creative minds will form groups that will take innovative ideas from conception to launch over a weekend!
The event begins with a concept pitching and team building on day 1; In just 60 seconds, participants will take the stage to pitch their ideas. They will look for team members who believe in the idea and are willing to build a product off it. This leaves the remainder of the weekend to mind mapping, strategizing and building a real business.
Successful local entrepreneurs, from both tech and non-tech industries, will be at the event to give advice to the participants. These mentoring sessions will help the participants consider their value proposition, the product and business development over the 3-day period, and even beyond.
Over the weekend, the designers will put their aesthetic expertise to work as the tech participants work out the code. The business mavens will set the books right as the marketers and data analysts make use of the available data to reach the target markets. This surely is a fun event to meet like-minded thinkers and doers.
On the final day, Sunday, 24th November, the teams will pitch their businesses to a panel of judges comprised of serial entrepreneurs, business professionals, and sought-after tech entrepreneurs. By the close of day on Sunday, the 3 top teams will receive their cash prizes, and support from the mentors and advisors for Startup Weekend Accra.
“At MEST, we are committed to helping develop the tech entrepreneurship ecosystem here in Ghana, for that reason we have always been a big supporter of the Startup Weekend event right from the beginning and we are happy to host the event this year too ” – Amma Baffoe, Head of Communications- Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology.
